Vehicle owners using unauthorized aftermarket white LED lights on their vehicles will be liable for fines in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, as per a recent record. The report says that the Ahmedabad police has already started a drive to identify and penalize such offenders and a directive has been issued by the Commissionerate of Transport.
White LED headlights, commonly seen in aftermarket modifications, often have a sharper, bluish-white hue, which can lead to discomfort and potential safety hazards on the road.Although they may appear brighter, these headlights do not meet regulations and can cause glare for oncoming traffic.
Here’s why white LED headlights are a problem:
The Commissioner of Transport has reportedly received numerous complaints regarding unauthorized white LED lights causing distractions, prompting the issuance of a written directive for stricter enforcement.
The problem of aftermarket installation of LED lights extends beyond urban regions. Even on national highways, the presence of white LED headlights creates significant distractions for drivers and other vehicles, leading to numerous accidents.

Additionally, authorities plan to take legal action against vehicle owners who install such lights illegally, as well as crack down on auto accessory shops selling and installing unauthorized white LED lights. It is not yet known by how much the Ahmedabad police plan to find the offenders but it could prove to be a step in the right direction to curb LED headlight distractions-related mishaps on roads.
