US-based marque Stellantis and Chinese electric vehicle start-up Leapmotor announced on Tuesday a joint venture named Leapmotor International, with Stellantis holding a 51% stake. The venture aims to extend the sales of Leapmotor EVs beyond China and establish production facilities outside the country, leveraging Stellantis’s manufacturing capabilities.This partnership follows Stellantis’s acquisition of a 21% stake in Leap Motor for $1.6 billion last year, signaling a broader collaboration between the two groups.
Stellantis-Leap Motor JV aims to commence shipping cars to nine European countries, including France and Germany, starting September. Following this initial launch, the EVs will be introduced in markets across the Middle East, Africa, India, the Asia-Pacific region, and South America later in the year. In India, the JV will begin its operations in Q4 2024.

The T03 hatchback and C10 SUV are poised to become the first models introduced by Stellantis globally this year. Additionally, they will be accompanied by two additional hatchbacks and two more SUVs by the year 2027-28. The models that are likely to arrive in India later this year are the T03 hatchback and C10 SUV.

Under the JV agreement, Stellantis gains exclusive rights to manufacture, export, and distribute Leap Motor products outside China, marking a significant milestone for a Western automaker partnering with a Chinese EV company.
